Test shots- long exposure

Long exposures

For these photos I tested out long exposure, this is because I wanted to test out different shots to see how they came out. For my FMP I plan to do a long exposure photo. To do this I needed to practise so I went to London and these were my outcomes. I think these out comes came out as expected as they show a wide variety of colour and movement. To improve I will experiment with other settings and movements and see the outcome.

week 4- research

Thomas Ruff
Ruff embarked on a series if portraits. They were unglamorous portraits of ordinary people, devoid of expression the portraits suggest that it is impossible to photographically represent a subjects inner life, socially based mode of representation.

I chose to respond to Thomas Ruff as I like that he wiped the expression of the ordinary peoples faces to see what effect this has. I like that there is no emotion and that they are very raw. This is good for my project as my FMP is going to be portraiture so this was good for test shoots not only this but when I responded I wanted to focus on imperfections e.g spots, scars or even wrinkles. These imperfections can cause some people to feel vulnerable.

I think that my responses to Thomas Ruff were successful, as I do think I captured and added emphasis on the models imperfections on there faces. In order to do this I changed the photos to black and white and edited the colouring balance like magenta and cyan. If I were to do this again I would make sure I took the photos at the same time of the day so the lighting is the same and maybe get a wider range of models to get a better selection.

More week 3- research

Linnea Strid
Linnea Strid is inspired by human emotions and the tedious details in everyday routine. She creates hyper realistic oil paintings dipicting the insignificant actions involving water that we mechanically repeat in any given day.

I chose to respond to LInnea Strid as for one of my FMP shoots I want to use my model underwater and show panic an fear through that. I like how detailed the water is in all her photographs. The photos are meant to show emotions and the inspiration is the fear of dying, fear of living, loneliness and anxiety in general.

Here above are my responses to Linnea Strid I wanted to play around with water and how this could be effective in a photograph. I think these photos are successful as test shoots as there is clear detail in the water, which is what I intended to achieve. I hope to use this technique in my FMP shoot. To improve I think I should edit a wider variety of shots and see the outcome and how and if they could be used in my work.

Week 3- research

Jemima Stehli
Jemima Stehli is a British feminist artist, who has made photographic naked self-portraits. Stehli stages a full- length nude photo of herself in her studio holding the remote shutter release in her left hand.

Stehli uses her naked body to challenge notions of desire, narcissism and sexuality. I chose to research Jemima Stehli as I thought her work is a really good connection to my FMP in the way she captures peoples reactions to her nudity. As for my FMP I am documenting peoples reactions and expressions I think this is a good photographer to use.

Week 2- creative week

For this week we had to join up with graphics to make some thing. This could be whatever we wanted it to be.

My group chose to make an outfit. This outfit included a head dress, necklace, top and skirt.  We wanted the outfit to be made from really random things that you wouldn't expect to see on someone.

Here are some drawings and I designs I did to plan what and how we would make the outfit. This is so we had an idea of what we were going to make and what we were going to make it out of.

Here are the photographs we took of our outfit. I think this was successful as we did arrive at a final outcome. The hat we made was made from wire and newspaper. We wanted the hat to really stand out so we made it big and used parts of the newspaper which had a lot of colour. The necklace was made from pencils we used masking tape to attach them all together, this actually made the outfit as the models chest looked very bare without it. The top we made from hair extensions we did originally have problems with this, however we did manage to get them to stick as a top. Finally the skirt was made from different materials which worked well. This project related to my FMP as I am doing photography, too improve next time I think my group and I should think more about the setting of the photos and how we take them.

Nan Goldin

Nan Goldin takes photos of everyone in their natural habitat. She's open minded and diverse. She really cares about the people she takes photos of and reveals her subjects personalities through her photographs.

I chose to reap on to Nan Goldins work as for my FMP I'am looking at vulnerability. When I thought of vulnerability it made me think of Nan Goldins self portrait of herself after the boyfriend Brian had beat her, I also liked the photographs of models smoking. I thought this would make an interesting response.

Here are photographs of two of the final pictures I took for my response, I think these were successful, however I think I could have improved and maybe took a wider range of different shots.
