frances kearny V&A

Frances Kearney (born 1970)
Five People Thinking the Same Thing II, III and V 1998

Kearney's snapshots are all staged. Meaning that clothing, posture and expressions are all set up for the photograph.  Kearney's work is concerned with the passing of time within a domestic setting, often with the subjects absorbed in what Kearney has described as "lost time". What I picked up from the work displayed was the element of hidden identity, in her work is it obvious as the models are positioned facing away from the camera, in the last image, it is not quite as noticeable but I feel it is still present. By depicting the figures with their faces turned away from us it leaves the characters unexplained and evokes an anxiety and an uncertainty towards the meaning of the image.

These two photos were my favourite of the five at the exhibition, I simply liked the layout and the setting and feel they really compliment the theme of the five photographs on how they are left with no identity revealed and that we as an audience are unaware of what they are doing we are just left with thoughts.
