Serpentine Gallery
The Pavilion The Pavilion is designed by Sou Fujimoto and is inspired by natural structures. It appears cloud-shaped, differing from a climbing frame and a building. It is formed of many white steel poles and clear disc's, this gives the architecture almost a sharp but transparent look. Not only can viewers and visitors can sit in the middle of the box where there is a cafe you are also able to climb the outside and sit at various different heights. Its transparency allows the surrounding landscape to become apart of the structure. Its form is dominated by the glass which gives it a feeling of space and freedom. The structure gives an exterior feel whilst maintaining protection from the elements, for example the british weather. The Pavilion can almost look blurred due to the materials used and the image can merely change depending on the light. When you walk through there is no sense of inside or outside the landscape becomes a canvas acting as a background to the structure, therefore merging the architecture and landscape as one. The unusual yet ambiguous structure looks finished but unfinished and the puzzling structure order are the perspectives which causes a gaze to the building this is very effective as it makes the building more distinctive.
